Pasta Sauce Recipe

Pasta Sauce – Per serving:     302 calories (10% calories from fat), 20 g protein, 4 g total fat (1.1 g saturated fat), 51 g carbohydrates, 7 g dietary fiber, 27 mg cholesterol, 144 mg sodium, 410 mg potassium

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (28 g) chopped basil
  • 3 tablespoons chopped Italian parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • freshly grated pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 of the Basic Sauce (recipe above)
  • 12 ounces (360g) dry whole-wheat pasta

Instructions

  1. Add the herbs, salt (if using), sugar, and peppers to the Basic Sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
  2. While the sauce simmers, boil the pasta until al dente following package directions. Drain well.
  3. Toss the pasta in the sauce and serve.
